IELTS IN ACCRA AND KUMASI, GHANA
Your international benchmark

If you are planning to study, live or work abroad, you will need to take an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Exam.

In Accra and Kumasi we run IELTS Exams regularly. Read on to find out how to register, what it costs and when the exams and workshops take place.

How can I register?
OPTION 1
Step1: Apply online
Step2: Fax or e-mail the following documentation:
copy of your international passport including the validation page (to be present at exam)

OPTION 3
Step1: Apply via eTranzact Online application and pay with your eTranzact card
complete an online application and pay with your eTranzact card or Zenith Bank confirmation number
to pay online you will need either a eTranzact card and pin number (please remember to keep this confidential) or Zenith bank receipt and a confirmation number
when completing the online application you will need to upload your passport photo – you will need to upload both sides of your passport photo
you will also need to scan and attach a copy of your national identity card or passport. Please note if you are using your passport you must scan the page containing all your personal details
once you have uploaded your photo and a scanned copy of your ID/passport you will be requested to supply your payment details
you must either give the pin number provided on your eTranzact card or the confirmation number on your bank receipt from Zenith Bank
please note that if you have not completed ALL the required information you may not be able to submit your application
once you have completed and checked your application form click the submit button
you will receive an e-mail or call from the British Council Customer Service Helpdesk within a week of receipt of your application to confirm the date and time for your IELTS speaking exam.

Please note:  
student ID card will not be accepted
the original ID used during registration must be presented on the exam day
no PO Box/PMB/agent and international addresses will be accepted as correspondence address. (Please state clear and concise addresses)
the candidate must sign the IELTS form personally. No other person is authorised to sign on behalf of the candidate. The candidate will be automatically disqualified in the event of someone else signing on their behalf
age limit: IELTS is not recommended for those under 16
take a recent passport sized picture (not more than six months old, taken against plain white background, in sharp focus and clear, eyes open and clearly visible, nothing covering the face, eyes, nose or mouth and with a neutral expression with mouth closed). Only pictures in jpg and jpeg format are required. (Please note that pictures that are not in sharp focus will be rejected)
sign the back of the passport picture
Please note that on the day of the exam, you are required to bring the same form of identity as used in registering online. University student ID cards, Driving licence, Medical IDs or ISIC cards are NOT acceptable. Only a valid passport or national ID card bearing photograph, number and signature, date of birth and full name in English lettering is acceptable. For Ghanaian candidates, the voters’ ID card is acceptable as a form of ID but you will be required to complete a verification form if you intend to use as your ID. Please remember to submit the same two passport pictures to the British Council on the day of your speaking exam.

How do I pay?
OPTION 1
Step 1: Purchase a bank draft at any reputable bank in Ghana and should be payable to British Council.

OPTION 2
Step 1: Pay online with your eTranzact card or a Zenith Bank confirmation number.
Using either the eTranzact card and pin number or the Zenith Bank receipt and confirmation number you will be able to complete the online payment form during the online application process
please remember to keep your pin number confidential.

Please note: If you are taking your IELTS Exam in Ghana, it will be a written exam ie (pen and paper exam) and not computer based.

When can I write my exam?

When can I attend an IELTS workshop?

IELTS workshops will be conducted on the following dates. All dates prior to these are fully booked.

Registration forms are available at out offices in Accra and Kumasi.

When will I get my results?

Results are available 13 working days from the date of examination.

Please note that you will have to pay additional courier fees to receive your Test Results Form (TRF).

Unfortunately results cannot be given over the phone, by fax or e-mail, and we are only allowed to give ONE certificate to each student. Candidates can however request to pick up their results in person or fill an Authority Note form, which allows you to send someone to pick up your result on your behalf. You can also request for your result to be sent to you by post, in this case you will be required to pay courier fees. This request can be made on the date of registration or on the date of the exams.

To collect your results you simply need to bring your ID book or card.

What will happen before the Exam?
candidates will receive notification/confirmation on the day of registration in the form of a letter specifying allocated date and time for the speaking test as well as the written exams.
in the event that you do not receive the notification, please contact the British Council office where you registered.
How do I prepare for the exam?

We can help you prepare for your exam in two ways:

1. Purchase an IELTS study pack which contains a sample exam and a listening CD. Numbers are limited so the packs are available on a first come first served basis. 
2. You can also join one of our workshops to help you achieve the best results. 
What should I take to the exam?
proof of your identity which is the same as the identity information you provided on your application form. It must contain a number, a signature, a date of birth and a photograph
if you are taking the exam in another country you need to also bring your passport
the pens, pencils and erasers which you need for the exam
bring an accurate watch along with you too so that you can keep track of the time.

Please note: If you do not have the correct identity information you will not be able to take the exam.

Make sure you arrive on time so that you have enough time to get comfortable.
