What is a Chevening Scholarship?

The Chevening is a prestigious award scheme for postgraduate students who would like to study in the UK. This is an annual programme funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office( FCO) and administered by the British Council. This highly-competitive scheme offers full-time postgraduate scholarships for one year taught postgraduate study in the UK.

Application

The British Government is pleased to invite applications for the British Chevening Scholarships programme for courses starting in September. Chevening scholarships are the most prestigious awards available to international students for study in the United Kingdom. They enable future leaders, decision-makers and opinion formers from around the world to become familiar with the UK, to gain new skills, or update current professional skills. The ultimate objective is to benefit their countries upon their return.

Eligibility

Scholarships are awarded to Afghan candidates of high intellectual and English language ability who will play a formative role in Afghanistan’s development. Applicants must:

  • have a Masters’ degree or a four-year Bachelors degree from any recognised university in Afghanistan or the equivalent from an overseas institution  
  • have a minimum of 2 years of work experience  
  • be Afghan citizens
  • not have received any British government funded academic award in the past three years

Duration

The scholarships are for one year taught postgraduate study in the UK.

Value

The scholarship covers the full cost of study in the UK.
