The Roles
There's never been a better time to join the British Council.
With an impressive record of success since 1934, we're an organisation that thrives on talent. We need the next generation of leaders who can build on this success, work well in an ambitious team and use their passion, commitment and integrity to make things happen.
We've created the Graduate Programme to build on the qualities that you already have, develop your full potential and give you an insight into working in cultural relations which will prepare you for a bright future with us. This programmes supports our aim of providing opportunities for learning and for developing wider cultural relations, specifically within a difficult economic climate.
The challenges vary depending on the country you're assigned to, particularly with regards to the political, cultural and economic situation. But one thing's guaranteed, you'll have real and tangible responsibilities and projects to deliver from day one.
The Global Network
The British Council is on the ground in six continents and over a hundred countries, bringing international opportunity to life every day. The Global Network refers to our eight regions: the UK, EU Europe, Wider Europe, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, East Asia and the Americas.
The roles available are extremely varied and would be tailored to a candidate’s experience and expertise. You could find yourself managing an education reform project or supporting the delivery of a client-funded development programme. You could be working primarily on financial planning and management, developing our digital presence or strengthening a country’s marketing and communications.
All of the jobs will provide a chance to immerse yourself in another culture, to see first-hand the life-changing impact that we deliver, to engage closely in the management of an overseas operation, to develop relationships with important contacts and to understand the way in which our Corporate Plan is implemented through country teams.
Graduate opportunities are available in Libya, Greece, Italy, Russia, India, China, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

English and Exams
English has been at the heart of British Council's cultural relations work since 1943. We're now seen as a world authority in high-quality English language learning, teaching and assessment, reaching over 175 million teachers and learners.
Our expertise in English and Exams creates opportunities for millions of people worldwide through education, mobility and international engagement. We have centres in cities across the globe offering first-class face-to-face teaching, complemented by digital products for both teachers and learners. Our ambition is to extend our reach and impact – especially in the digital arena – and offer even better products and activities to an audience exceeding 400 million by 2020.
The income that's generated by our work plays an important role in the future of our organisation. For instance, in 2012, our global operations generated around £455 million in income.
Graduate opportunities in this team are available in Kenya.
