In 2011, 300,000 learners took part in our teaching centre classes. We supported almost five million English language teachers around the world and reached nearly 100 million students via broadcasts, print or digital English teaching.
In 2011, we delivered 2.5 million exams to 1.9 million candidates in more than 100 countries across the world.
Our Project English programme in India is providing 750,000 teachers with English language teacher training.
Our Facebook page for English language learners in the Middle East and North Africa has more than 500,000 subscribers. Downloads of our mobile applications have exceeded one million.
We are working with the Rwandan government to train English language teacher trainers in the country following the country’s adoption of English as an official language. A similar initiative is taking place in South Sudan.
We aim to respond to the huge global demand for British Council quality English teaching and examinations by growing by over 10% per annum, amounting to a global turnover of more than £500 million by 2015.
