The Royal Shakespeare Company launches a strand of work which has been 3 years in the planning. Revolutions is an investigation into the dramatic life of the countries that made up the former Soviet Union.
Experience the breadth of Russian culture through a dynamic series of events. Hear talks and debates with leading cultural commentators and practitioners, listen to readings of work from new and established Russian dramatists, and see the latest in visual arts exhibitions.
- An explosive fusion of words, music and dance Late Night Young Russia will feature world champion breakdancing crew Top 9 and DJ Hobot in a collaborative performance of Ivan Vyrypaev’s Oxygen.
- A rich, varied, heart-stopping array of new work by five Russian playwrights will be premiered in a series of play readings. The plays are curated by Elyse Dodgson, Associate Director (International) at the Royal Court and translated by poet Sasha Dugdale.
- Leading theatre practitioners, artists and cultural commentators will contribute to a series of talks exploring the influence of Russian theatre, contemporary Russian art and society, and the future of Russian theatre and writing.
- A series of special exhibitions is celebrating the Revolutions Season: Theatre of the Future and A New Place to Live - exhibitions on the influence of Russian Theatre; as well as an exhibition by Russian artists Victor Alimpiev and Semhon Fiabisovich.
