DEFRA Climate Change Champions

The nine new Climate Change Champions were announced by the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, at No.10 Downing Street on 20 February 2008.

Shortly afterwards, the Champions joined forces with six Welsh Champions and attended a factfinding expedition to the Netherlands – meeting Ministers from the Dutch Government, visiting an offshore wind-park, and enjoying a private reception with the British Ambassador.

Across the rest of 2008 the Champions will be attending and speaking at regional conferences, organising their own climate change themed events, and will be working with press and media to increase people’s awareness of climate change.

'We want the Champions to be talking to young people all over the world to find out why climate change is important to them.' Said Adam Nethersole, Project Manager at DEFRA (The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).

If you are 11-18 they also want to hear from you – to find out what you think they can do to help. Have a look at the information on the Footprint Friends website.

Perhaps you have a burning question that you would like one of the Champions to ask someone?
