Over the next three years we will be running a further series of projects across the world under the umbrella of 'Climate Change'. They will engage a wide range of participants, from school students as Climate Champions, to teachers through learning packs, environmental advocates in Challenge Europe, to journalists and the media in the Climate Cool campaigns in China, East Asia - and elsewhere.
Each country may have recruited as many as 20 national champions, but have selected 3 individuals for the international meetings in London and Kobe. All participants from each of the G8+5 (Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, UK, USA) will interact and develop communications projects relating to climate change. The programme is expected to extend beyond the G8 summit in 2008.
This activity is to accelerate change to a low carbon future by building an elite network of young influencers – climate change advocates - from different professional backgrounds across Europe.
We will work with national and European organisations to recruit working groups of 20+ young professionals in each participating country. These climate change advocates will have access to the expertise of local and international agents of change to inspire them with real-world case studies, visits and investigations. The groups will investigate issues from multidisciplinary perspectives and develop innovative strategies for tackling them and promoting positive change. We will then help the groups to promote the Climate Calls for Action to key decision-makers and policy makers in their country as well as disseminate them more widely to other sectors and audiences.
