minister meets ICCs

Twenty eight International Climate Champions met with Stewart Stevenson, the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change, at the Scottish Parliament on 25 February 2009.  The champions, from fourteen different countries, explained to him some of the projects they would be working on.  Their projects include a Green Month on Sustainable Transport, a project for planting 10,000 mangrove saplings in Sri Lanka and an ambitious car pooling scheme for a city in India.

British Council International Climate Champions act as role models and encourage action on climate change issues within their local communities. The young people, aged from 16 to 21, came to Edinburgh to share ideas for projects, develop project plans and work on their skills to communicate their message.  Climate Change experts and project managers from the charity Groundwork gave advice on how to galvanise enthusiasm and action in their home communities.

The champions will travel back to their home countries and help train the other 600 International Climate Champions currently active around the world.
