The UK 9/11 Scholarships Fund has been registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales as a subsidiary charity of the British Council, the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. UK 9/11 scholarships have been made available by funding from the World Trade Center Disaster Fund, a charity in England and Wales established after September 11 2001 through contributions from individuals and financial institutions in the UK with strong links to New York. UK 9/11 scholarships are awarded by an adjudication panel made up of representatives of higher and further education institutions in the United Kingdom. Their decisions, made on the basis of the eligibility criteria established by the trust board of the Fund, are final and not open to appeal. The administration of the scholarships – including pastoral care for scholars while in the United Kingdom – is undertaken by the British Council’s Development Services department. Applications from residents in the United States are handled by Scholarship America, the USA’s largest scholarships organisation. |
