9/11 SUMMER SCHOOL

To become a citizen of not just the United States, but the world, opens up endless possibilities of friendships beyond the average parameter.  Kevin made friends with several people who inspired him.  This experience is priceless.  The pride of participating in a programme that honours the sacrifice of their parent is a healthy and vital process of a lifelong healing from their loss.”

How was the 9/11 Scholarships Fund set up?

The UK 9/11 Scholarships Fund has been registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales as a subsidiary charity of the British Council, the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations.

UK 9/11 scholarships have been made available by funding from the World Trade Center Disaster Fund, a charity in England and Wales established after September 11 2001 through contributions from individuals and financial institutions in the UK with strong links to New York.

How are scholarships awarded?

UK 9/11 scholarships are awarded by an UK British Council adjudication panel. Their decisions, made on the basis of the eligibility criteria established by the trust board of the Fund, are final and not open to appeal.

The administration of the scholarships – including pastoral care for scholars while in the United Kingdom – is undertaken by the British Council’s Programmes & Projects, Scholarships and Exchanges department. Applications from residents in the United States are handled initially by Scholarship America, the USA’s largest scholarships organisation.
